Projects

Used goods campaign successfully accomplished

Dear all,

We would like to let you know that all the goods arrived in good hands and have been distributed.

We were able to make a lot of people happy, and that was of course the main goal!

Unfortunately, there is no extensive photo coverage due to lack of electricity. But we have 4 beautiful videos. We are very happy with these, because on the videos you can clearly see and hear how happy everyone is.

In the first video, you can see dancing and singing women. What they are doing here is thanking and blessing everyone who has donated or helped out.

We think it's very important that you can see where the goods ended up and the people who will give the goods a second life.

We would like to thank you very much for your contribution and support. And a special thanks to the people who helped with packing and transportation.

Stay healthy and please think twice before you throw used items away. Till the next project!

Joy & Edwin

A roof on the house

Update, a roof on the house.

Meanwhile, hard work has been done on the house in the village, ''UKULU'' in Isiala Mbano LGA, Imo State.

The concrete for the roof structure has been poured and cured. We bought wood and the carpenters started working on building the roof. (See photos)

Of course, we've been busy too. While the carpenters were busy with the roof construction we made contacts with manufacturers for the roof panels. We wanted to close the roof as soon as possible. As mentioned earlier, it is quite a challenge to arrange and organize all this from the Netherlands. Fortunately, we are well supported by the family of Joy. They makes sure that we are well informed of the progress of the construction and visits the markets and factories for us. They also send us as many pictures and videos as possible.

We managed to negotiate a good price for the roofing sheets and to buy them. We are now proud to tell (and show) that the roof is completely closed.

On to the next step!

Update fundraiser

Hereby an update on the fundraiser.

We are completely surprised by the large number of goods we received, we never expected this...

An enormous amount of clothes, shoes, pots, pans, cutlery, plates, toys, etc... too much to mention.

Meanwhile, all the goods have been packed. This was a huge job. Fortunately, many people were willing to help. In the end, 5 large boxes were packed.

At this moment all goods are ready at the harbor. The boat is expected to leave early next week. In about 6 - 8 weeks we expect to have the goods in the village.

As soon as the goods arrive and are distributed, an extensive photo report will be made. This will of course be shared with you on our website.

Help us with building and fundraising projects in Nigeria

We have recently started 2 projects and would like to ask for your help.

The first project is a fundraising campaign of used/new items (www.joyedwin.com/projects). This campaign has raised so many items so far, that's just fantastic! Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed! The amount of items is (much) more than we hoped for (which is very nice) but the cost of shipping is therefore higher.

A short note about the fundraiser:

Joy's family lives in Imo State, Nigeria. Although Nigeria is a very rich country (due to oil among other things), the difference between rich and poor is very big. In poor areas, there is a great need for all kinds of consumer items. For example clothing, shoes, jackets, bedding, toys, kitchenware.

The plan is to send the collected items directly to Joy's mother. There she will personally make sure that each item gets a good destination. In this way, we can make a lot of people/family happy and we know for sure that all the items will be used in a good way.
