We have recently started 2 projects and would like to ask for your help.
The first project is a fundraising campaign of used/new items (www.joyedwin.com/projects). This campaign has raised so many items so far, that's just fantastic! Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed! The amount of items is (much) more than we hoped for (which is very nice) but the cost of shipping is therefore higher.
A short note about the fundraiser:
Joy's family lives in Imo State, Nigeria. Although Nigeria is a very rich country (due to oil among other things), the difference between rich and poor is very big. In poor areas, there is a great need for all kinds of consumer items. For example clothing, shoes, jackets, bedding, toys, kitchenware.
The plan is to send the collected items directly to Joy's mother. There she will personally make sure that each item gets a good destination. In this way, we can make a lot of people/family happy and we know for sure that all the items will be used in a good way.
The second project we have started is to build a proper house for Joy’s mother, brothers, and sisters.
Joy's father died last year in January, and since then her mother has been ''homeless''. She is now living temporarily in a ruin. It leaks on all sides, there are no sanitary facilities, no kitchen, it is very unhealthy, there is no privacy, etc...
We bought a piece of land and had a local architect design a house. After everything was approved we started the construction, for this, we try to use as many local craftsmen as possible and thus provide some employment and income.
Organizing and supervise all this from the Netherlands is quite a challenge in itself but the project is starting to take shape.
At this moment the foundation, all inner and outer walls, lintels, and preparation for the roof construction are ready. The next step is to make sure a roof is put on the house.
Our goal is to have the whole house finished within 6 months so that Joy's mother will have a healthy place to live.
We are therefore asking everyone who can spare a little money to contribute to the construction of the house for Joy's mother and to help with the shipping of all the goods. Every contribution, big or small, helps...
Our great dream is, when this building project is finished, to build more houses in the future with the help of donations, to build water wells, and to ship supplies regularly...
